While the origins of tarot magic are mysterious, there is no doubt that tarot spells and meditation on the tarot are powerful magical tools. The images of the cards of the tarot's major arcana offer a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds. Powerful archetypes speak directly with the heart and spirit, bypassing the intellectual interference of the mind.
Wiccan Tarot Meditation
To focus on a particular area of life, whether to gain understanding or to visualize a wished for outcome, choose an appropriate card from the major arcana. For example, when trying to achieve control over events in the material world, The Chariot would be a useful card.
- Place the selected card on the Wiccan altar or other special place.
- Light a white candle next to the card, at a safe distance.
- Focus gently on the card, and become conscious of the in-breath and out-breath. If necessary, to improve concentration, close your eyes for a few moments before refocusing on the image.
- Considering the image as a real scene, explore every aspect of it and visualize its physical reality.
- Close your eyes, and imagine being inside the scene represented in the image. Explore the surroundings, feel the atmosphere of the place, and if it feels appropriate, speak with any characters represented.
- Having satisfactorily explored the scene, focus again on the in-breath and out-breath and, when ready, open your eyes.
The image of the tarot card will have gained a new vitality and significance, an excellent step towards a better understanding of the symbolism of the card.
Wiccan Meditations on the Tarot when Casting Spells
The images of the major arcana may be used either for a standalone meditation for spiritual exploration or when casting a tarot spell. For tarot spell work, choose a card which is directly related to the aims of the spell. Use the meditation above to assist exploration and visualization at an appropriate stage when casting the spell.
Major Arcana Symbolism
Many different interpretations are attributed to the images of the major arcana. A true understanding is built up slowly through both study of other peoples’ opinions and one’s own inner study of the major arcana.
Intuition is key to unlocking the power of the major arcana. Conscious thinking is too slow and cumbersome to make use of the wisdom symbolized in the magical tarot images. Relax and trust to instinct when exploring the spiritual realms revealed through Wiccan meditation on the tarot.
